Amakusa stones are mined from the sharpening stone mines located in Kumamoto prefecture, Japan. Amakusa stones has long been used as a general purpose sharpening stone since the Sengoku period. The white Amakusa stones are also known as a "jo-haku-to" which literally translates to fine white stone. The stones may come in various spot patterns or shape depending on where it was cut out from but please understand that is one of the characteristics of a natural stone.
The white Amakusa stone is recommended for sharpening kitchen knives and woodworking tools.
