An adze is a tool used to remove bark and clean the surface of a log. The clam shape blade can gouge out more wood compared to the straight edge blade and is commonly used to create a pattern called the kikko pattern (turtle shell pattern), which is a popular pattern used on woods for traditional sukiya buildings. The blade is forged with white steel.
