This knife was originally used by Japanese umbrella makers to shape the frame of an umbrella. (Kasaya = umbrella store in Japanese). Now it is used for general woodworking and detailed crafting. These knives are beveled on one side only.
Baishinshi is a brand produced by a blacksmithing family who has been forging carving knives and chisels for more than 250 years. Currently the 7th generation took over as "Baishinshi Kunimitsu", the family blacksmith name.
