ABOUT CARVING CHISELS
Types of Carving Chisels

1. Flat carving chisel:
It is used to smooth out any rough spots or grooves created by other
carving knives. It can also be used to create gradient effect by scratching the surface like a scraper.
2. Skew carving chisel:
A versatile carving tool that can be used to make markings for the outline,
smooth out surfaces or make detailed cuts with the tip. Generally the right-beveled skew is for right
hand and a left-beveled skew is for left-hand users. As the skew gets thinner and smaller, it can
do finer work.
3. u-gouge carving chisel:
It is used to create round grooves and carve out wide area. It can
also be used to carve curved parts such as face of a person or a fold, a crease of robes, sheets,
etc.
4. shallow u-gouge carving chisel:
It is used to carve out wider area than a regular u-gouge
because the gouge is much shallow.
5. v-gouge carving chisel:
It is used to carve sharp grooves and outlines for reliefs and woodblock
printing.
